COVID-19 Police Activity and Face Masks

The attached was left at a Coral Gables construction site yesterday.  It can give you some guidance on what the COVID-19 police are looking for.

Also, yesterday afternoon the President mentioned that wearing a scarf as a mask in public can be effective.  As a result, I have fielded several calls about this because of the President’s comment and the news outlets running stories encouraging people to wear masks.    Scarfs, bandana’s, homemade cloth face masks offer no virus protection, nor do dust masks.  Wearing these masks do not lessen the social distancing of 6 feet.  The only value they may have is preventing large droplets of saliva and mucus from leaving your mouth and nose.  It may not prevent microscopic droplets carrying the virus from infecting others.  Today, the U.S. Surgeon General Jerome Adams said the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention had been asked to review its guidance on wearing masks.  Currently, the CDC does not recommend that people who are well wear a facemask to protect themselves from respiratory illnesses, including COVID-19.

I have sent a number of these blasts over the last two weeks to let our clients know the latest information on the pandemic and how the construction industry can best protect itself.  If these are becoming overwhelming, please let me know and I will remove you temporarily from our mail list.  We all are struggling with this, at work and at home.  We are doing all we can to make these difficult times just a bit easier for everyone.

We also have a forum on WhatsApp for construction safety.  Currently, it has over 200 safety and construction professionals participating and there has been a plethora of information exchanged on the virus over the last few weeks.  If you would like to join us you just need to download the WhatsApp on to your cellular phone and send me a request by text or email and I will add you.  Please include your phone number in the request.  Government agencies are not allowed in this forum and participants are prohibited from selling services, using chat speak and posting cat videos.
